L'Archivolto

Desolina Mori

My name is Desolina Mori.  I owe my old fashion name to my paternal grandmother.  I was born on January 28th, 1958 in Viadana, a town in the province of Mantua on the banks of the Po river, an area that is very important to me.  I did my high schooling in Parma and then went to Venice for university.  I’m very fond of Venice which I consider my second home.
I graduated with honors from the Architectural Institute of Venice (IUAV, Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia) in December, 1982 and was licensed in May of the following year We opened our studio L’Archivolto on the first of April, 1984 in Reggio Emilia.  Lorenzo Ferretti Garsi and I have been partners since the beginning after having been school mates during our time at university.
When I opened the studio, I was also involved in my family’s restaurant “Il Leone” in Pomponesco (MN), a well recognized Michelin restaurant.   This experience develop my other great passions: food, wine and a better understanding of people’s tastes.  I’m confident I bring this sensitivity to my work as an architect.  For me it’s crucial to know our clients, to understand their needs, to satisfy their requests and to always work on a project in a way that’s custom tailored to them.
I’m happy to say that I enjoy all aspects of my job (perhaps less the bureaucracy) and I’m very interested in gardens as well as natural  systems and materials for buildings that have a better ecological footprint.
I truly believe that good architectural design can improve the area where you build, the cities as well as the people themselves.
